Blasting Complaints June 3 - June 10, 2009

space

This morning (Wednesday, June 3, 2009) I was at the home of my daughter [on] San Marino Court.  Just before 11:30 am there was a very strong blast from the quarry.  It was strong enough to shake the house and rattle the windows.  It also woke my grandson from his nap. The sound of it was very startling and made me jump.  Such a strong blast should not be allowed nor tolerated in a residential environment and I wish to register my protest.

2 blasts this week rocked the house, including the one just now. We can hear the house crack each time there is a blast, along with the shake in windows, floor etc. Pictures on the walls continually have to be straightened. Any pretense that the blasts are barely perceptible is just flat out lie.

6/3/09  Today's blast was so intense it rocked our house and our bath tiles are now separating from the joints. Truthfully the intensity of today's blast was frightening.

Yesterday morning there was a blast from the quarry behind my neighborhood that was extremely upsetting. It was strong enough to make me check all the windows, etc. in my house to see if anything had been broken. I even had a workman in my house who was so upset that he ran outside. At first I thought a tree had fallen on my house or that we had an earthquake. I don't know why the blast should be so extremely strong but something like this should never be allowed near a residential environment. I wish to register my complaint about this matter.

Like most of my neighbors, I have all but stopped reporting incidents in which the San Rafael Rock Quarry abuses its operating privilege by setting of blasts that devastate the surrounding community. Today the blast at the Quarry was one of the largest, strongest, loudest and most disturbing that has occurred in recent memory.

Are my complaints, and those of other residents, falling on deaf ears at this point? Does your office even pay attention to these blasts or residents complaints any longer? Is anyone even requiring SRRQ to explain or defend such activity as today's blast?

These are not rhetorical questions and would appreciate receiving your response.

Yesterday’s blast was unusually strong.  You indicate … they did not exceed the standards.  Iwould like to see the actual data please.  I have seldom felt one that had that heavy an impact.  When will you all realize that your check against the "standard " is useless unless you measure it against the structure.
