DESCRIPTION
Draft Recovery Plan for Tidal Marsh Ecosystems of Northern and Central California The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a massive 50-year, $1.5 billion tidal marsh recovery effort that will include wetlands along Marin's shores. This effort may well include the wetlands along Pt. San Pedro Road and is being further researched by the committee. An article in the Marin IJ on February 10, 2010 titled Feds want marsh recovery effort around Marin's shores and rest of the bay by Mark Prado describes the intent and impact of this announcement for Marin.
River Network If you are concerned about activities affecting wetlands in your area, you need to be familiar with the Section 404 regulatory program of the Clean Water Act. This website explains the different kinds of 404 permits that are required for different types of activities and how you can influence whether a proposed activity is permitted or not.
Beach Drive Wetlands Photos (September 2009) Committee Chair, Rodney Ruskin, took some wonderful photos of the return in force of snowy egrets, mallards and other avian wildlife to the Beach Road wetlands. While this resurgence of birds cannot all be attributed to the replaced flap gate, it surely played a part.
