San Rafael City Council to Consider Annual Median Assessment District Rate Increase

The San Rafael City Council will hold a public hearing on July 20, 2020 regarding a proposed $2.91 increase in the annual Point San Pedro Road Median Landscape District assessment fee for the 2020/21 fiscal year.  Under this proposal the yearly assessment would be increased from $96.88 to $99.79. This proposed increase has been developed by the City and has been reviewed and has the support the Point San Pedro Coalition’s Roadway Committee. All revenues collected from these fees are restricted to paying operating costs to maintain the medians.

The Committee has been working with the City’s Public Works Department to help ensure the median maintenance work continues to be performed in an acceptable manner. We have also working with City Staff on issues associated with irrigation system repair as well as median water usage to control median maintenance costs.

The City Council Hearing will be an opportunity for District residents to share their comments regarding this issue with their elected representatives. I also welcome any comments or questions you may have regarding the above. Please email me at kevin@sprcoalition.org by Friday, June 12 and I will get back to you.  I will also share your comments with City staff.

I think we can all agree that the landscaping of the Point San Pedro Road medians has greatly enhanced the appearance of the Point San Pedro Peninsula. I want to acknowledge the work that the Roadway Committee’s Median Maintenance Subcommittee Chair Jim Dickson and his committee members have done during the last five  years working closely with City staff with the goal of ensuring that the medians are properly maintained at a reasonable cost.
