The Earthquake page includes a large number of links to sites covering background material, planning resources, preparation, and response to earthquakes.
www.FireSafeMarin.org has a detailed discussion of how to protect your home from a wildland fire. See the links under “Firesafe Home.” The “Survival Guide” link is also especially helpful.
www.72hours.org is another excellent site for planning.
PrepareNow .org has excellent material as well.
The National Flood Insurance Program provides information on flood-related issues and offers flood and earth slide insurance caused by rain water. You can get coverage for a home up to $250,000 and personal property up to $100,000. The cost with $500 deductibles for each coverage in our area (Zone C – Preferred Risk) is $317.
Having an emergency kit for your home, and also for each car, is an excellent idea. One source is the Earthquake Supply Center at 3095 Kerner Blvd. in San Rafael (459-5500). Their website is http://www.earthquakesupplycenter.com. Items may be ordered online or at the store. Another site for supplies is Disaster Survival Solutions at http://www.qrcenter.com/ Further information on supply ideas can be found on the Earthquake page.
