Disaster Preparedness

Objectives

The Coaliton urges Homeowner Associations to take responsibility for developing emergency response plans and prepare their members for when a disaster occurs. Community-based Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) can be trained to care for the needs of the neighborhood.  A coordinated planning effort between  homeowner associations along the Point San Pedro Road corridor will help to assure all levels of our community are prepared to successfully respond to a disaster.

Each neighborhood should have:

  • A connection to a Community Disaster Council or similar organization
  • One Neighborhood Coordinator and at least one Neighborhood Liaison
  • Active linkage to local fire department/government disaster teams
  • A team of volunteers (properly trained!!! See Training) for:
→ First Aid, Medical, & Stress Management
    → Search and Rescue
    → Safety and Utilities
→ Care of People with Special Needs
    → Shelter & Feeding
    → Communications
    → Animal Rescue
