The Point San Pedro Road Coalition has been working with City staff on short- and longer-term solutions to improve the Esplanade on Point San Pedro Road between Bayside Park and Riviera Drive. Short-term improvements include repairing the sidewalk area adjacent to the seawall. Longer term solutions include improvements to the seawall, expanding the pedestrian walkway and enhancing pedestrian safety at crosswalks along that section of the road.
I am pleased to announce that City has identified some funding to begin Phase 1 to repair the asphalt pathway. Beginning on Thursday, January 6, the City contractor will start work on replacing the asphalt path between Peacock Drive and Riviera Drive with concrete for greater durability and disabled access.
The City is committed to doing the work on Phase 2, between Bayside Park and Peacock Drive, as soon as they are able to identify available funding.
Long-term solutions to improve the Esplanade will require additional planning and identification of funding. The Point San Pedro Road Coalition remains committed to working closely with, and providing opportunities for, area residents to provide input on any future proposed plans for improvement to the Esplanade as they are developed.
