The Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) and Point San Pedro Road Coalition are partnering together and sponsoring a family friendly Saturday morning of neighborhood fire safety and prevention.
When: Saturday, April 27th, 9:00 a. m. -1:00 p. m.
Activity: We will be removing fire-prone plants from the fire roads to keep the neighboring communities safe!
Why: The recent rains have caused plants and weeds to grow rapidly blocking emergency access to the fire roads. Once summer arrives these plants will quickly dry out, becoming potential fuel for a wildfire.
Where: The Fire Road between the top of Bayview Dr. and the end of Main Dr. Residents may walk there from surrounding neighborhoods such as Loch Lomond, Bayside Acres, Glenwood, and the Strand. There is NO PARKING on Bayview Drive.
Directions: General public please park at Glenwood Elementary School parking lot and follow the walking directions (orange line) in the map below to where we will be working (yellow line) to clear the fire road. Or, gather with the other volunteers to carpool from the parking lot to the top of Main Dr., where the fire road begins. Area residents: check with your homeowner association or NextDoor for instructions on how to arrive depending on where you live.
Attire: Long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
Additional items: Gardening gloves, trowels, pruning shears, and a reusable water bottle.
Please be sure to sign up for this community Fire Prevention focused Earth Day event at BayAreaVolunteers.org.
There will be coffee, snacks, and a smoothie bike (where you can create and blend your own smoothie by pedaling!). CVNL and Point San Pedro Road Coalition are looking forward to working with you to make the community wildfire safe!
