On Friday March 4, the City of San Rafael’s Department of Public Works Director, Dean Allison, died unexpectedly. His death is not only a tragic loss for his family but also for all the residents of San Rafael.
In his unfortunately brief tenure as DPW Director, Dean impressed all who met him with his remarkable ability to listen to concerns, to be flexible in trying new approaches and to immediately follow through on his commitments. He was a problem solver and was constantly looking for ways that his Department could work with neighborhood groups to get things done. He had said that while the job of a Public Works Director involved managing many large projects, he got the most satisfaction from participating personally in identifying “win-win” solutions for neighborhood issues.
He worked closely with the Coalition’s Roadway Committee on the medians and traffic and safety issues related to Pt. San Pedro Road and with the Marina Committee on issues regarding the The Strand development. It is difficult to realize that he will not be here to see the completion of many of his actions. The Coalition extends its deep condolences to his family, friends and his co-workers at the DPW and San Rafael government. He will sorely be missed by us all.
