Register Now for Our Weed Pull Event April 24 in Honor of Earth Day (April 22)

Dear Neighbors,

To help keep our community safe, the Pt. San Pedro Road Coalition is sponsoring a family friendly fire prevention weed pull on Saturday, April 24 from 9 AM to 1 PM.  Partnering with us for this event is the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) and Friends of China Camp (FOCC). Together we will gather to clear fire prone vegetation along the Shoreline Trail from Biscayne Drive eastward toward North San Pedro Road. If you can join us, please do!  Even if you are not able to pull weeds, we can still use volunteers in other ways.

Everyone needs to be sure to sign up using the Registration Form so that we know how many volunteers to expect and what shift they prefer.  Check out our photos of our last successful weed pull.

Here is some useful additional information that you might want to know. It will also be provided to you at the completion of the registration process and in an email you will receive after registration…(click to expand)

Shifts: We will be working in two shift:  9 AM to 11 AM and 11 AM to 1 PM. SPRC volunteers can meet at the trailhead along Biscayne Drive by the dumpster (see map).

Activity: We will be removing fire-prone plants to keep the neighboring communities safe! Since we are experiencing a drought, we expect these plants will quickly dry out, becoming potential fuel for a wildfire.

Where:  Shoreline Trail from Biscayne Drive to the China Camp boundary.  Parking is available on Biscayne Dr. near Pt. San Pedro Road. We will focus the work along the southernmost end of the Shoreline Trail, along the trail segment from where Shoreline intersects Biscayne Drive to the first trailhead in the state park along San Pedro Rd. Volunteers can pull broom from a 20 ft radius from the trail, with a special focus on clearing around the eucalyptus groves.

Attire: Long pants, long sleeves, sturdy closed-toe shoes, long sleeve shirt, and a hat. These suggestions are to protect volunteers from poison oak, ticks, and scratches.

Additional items: Gardening/work gloves, sun screen, face mask due to COVID-19 requirements, and a reusable water bottle.

Waiver Required: Volunteers will be required to sign a liability waiver. It will be provided during the registration process.

We are looking forward to working with you to make the community wildfire safe!
