Loch Lomond Marina Update

The Monday September 16, 2019 monthly meeting between the Coalition’s Marina Committee (Committee), the S.R. Community Development Department (CDD) and S.R. Dept. of Public Works (DPW) regarding developments at The Village at Loch Lomond Marina (aka “The Strand”) was cancelled once again by mutual consent of all parties. The next monthly meeting will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019.

The reason for cancellation was the same as last month – lack of any measurable progress by Marina Village Associates (MVA) as well as any change in status of the pending permit amendments with BCDC dealing with resolution of flooding on the connector to the breakwater and on the jetty containing the playground.

However, there is one very small light. MVA has obtained a permit from the City to complete some soil remediation at the location of the old dry cleaners at the east side of the property as mandated by the Water Quality Control Board. MVA plans to begin removing that contaminated soil (estimated at 10 truckloads) starting Monday, September 16. This may be the start of the work to remove the excess surcharge soil and begin, again, residential construction. However, MVA has not yet pulled any permits for that work.

While the lack of activity is very disappointing at the Coalition’s Marina Committee continues to communicate with the CDD and DPW to assist in encouraging progress. There is no indication from MVA that they are abandoning this project.

The public is encouraged to communicate with the Marina Committee using the Contact the Marina Committee form to raise any issues or concerns so that they may be brought to the City’s attention.
