This morning we received a reminder from Aimi Dutra that the San Rafael Rock Quarry has a sandbag station onsite available to our residents should they need it. Water levels are high, and more rain and wind are expected today and for the remainder of the week. The sandbag station is right past the entry gates on the left-hand side. Aimi wrote, “We are happy to assist in any way that we can….We understand the importance of being proactive and staying prepared, which is why we are offering this free service to all residents in need.”
On January 22, 2025, following the previous week’s front page report on the Dutra Group’s sale of their materials business to CRH Corporation (see our previous post), the Marin IJ published an editorial entitled, “ ‘Good neighbor’ accord should continue for San Rafael quarry.”. That editorial emphasized the importance of the maintaining the successful accord that Marin County and the SPR Coalition have with the quarry owners on behalf of neighbors. The Quarry’s outreach to our community offering sandbags is not a requirement of that accord but is one way that the quarry has demonstrated its ongoing commitment to be a good neighbor.
The Coalition continues to collaborate with Quarry leaders and Marin County staff regarding operations and reclamation activities and appreciates the commitments made by the Dutra Group to remain deeply involved in maintaining good community relationships.
