The following email from the County DPW was received by some of our residents. We are unsure what email list the County might have used, so we are posting the email here for everyone to read. This email raises a number of questions such as what will happen to the curbside parking once the park is deemed complete and will the other plantings (trees and shrubbery) be installed or wait along with the turf for the end of the drought. The Coalition is pursuing these and other questions and will post information when it is available.
Hello neighbors,
Thank you for your interest in Bayside Park. While Bayside Park construction completion was expected by July 9, substantial completion is now expected by the end of July.
Due to the drought, the turf areas will not be planted at this time. The turf areas will be covered with bark until a time that Marin County Parks determines that the turf can be planted. The project is considered incomplete until the turf is installed, but the park will be open for use. We’ll announce the soft opening date as soon as it is known.
Park adjacent curbside street parking WILL BE available as part of the soft opening of the park.
For background, the Bayside Park project is an ADA accessibility project. Due to age and damage from root uplift, the park was no longer code compliant for accessibility. The entire park is being refurbished including grading of many areas of the park, replacement of all paths, benches and trash/recycling receptacles. Nearly all landscaping is being replaced, including new trees that will be placed to prevent future root uplift of paths, and drought tolerant, heavily native plants to better reflect our environment.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you,
