[NOTE: This update contains a combined map of the two services now offering routes on Pt. San Pedro Road. See the bottom of this post for that map.]
The Point San Pedro Coalition was been working with Marin Transit and Golden Gate Transit for the last several years in getting some public transit to serve the Point San Pedro Road Peninsula.
The Coalition and Marin Transit are pleased to announce that the College of Marin Express Bus, Route 122, will be extended to serve the Point San Pedro Road Peninsula (PSPR) on weekday school days beginning Monday, August 20. The Route 122 will pick up passengers at the same stops Golden Gate Transit Ferry bus uses (Lagoon Rd/Peacock Drive, Point San Pedro Road/ Knight Drive and Point San Pedro Road /Lochinvar Road). The Marin College Express bus will also stop at the San Rafael Transit Center, the San Anselmo Hub before proceeding to the College or Marin. The service to the College of Marin will run hourly beginning at 8:52am to 1:52pm. Return trips from the College to the PSPR Peninsula will run hourly beginning at 9:07 am to 2:07 pm. A schedule and map can be found on The Marin Transit website at: http://marintransit.org/routes/122.
This new transit service follows two others that were implemented this year. They include:
- Marin Transit’s full implementation of paratransit service for the Peninsula area where only partial service based on availability of vehicles had existed before. This service started in March. For more information on this program, please go to Marin Transit’s Paratransit website at http://marintransit.org/paratransit.
- Golden Gate Transit’s implementation of pilot program that resulted in operation of ferry feeder buses from the Peninsula to the San Rafael Transit Center and then on to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal. There are two bus runs in the morning commute times and two buses that return to the Peninsula in the later afternoon/early evening. For more information on this program go to Golden Gate Transit’s web site: http://goldengatetransit.org/schedules/current/route_31.php
These are services that Point San Pedro Road Peninsula residents asked for in Coalition sponsored transit surveys during the last two years. NOW THAT WE HAVE THESE SERVICES, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE USE THEM. If they are not used, it is likely that at some time in the future that Marin Transit and Golden Gate Transit will determine that demand does not justify them maintaining those services.
Let’s make sure that does not happen.
