The Point San Pedro Road Coalition’s Roadway Committee has been monitoring the lane reduction on Point San Pedro Road between Riviera Drive and Knight Drive.
This lane closure which started in February 2022 and was scheduled to last through the Spring of 2023 was necessary to accommodate construction activity related to the construction of Fire Station 55.
The City’s purpose for the closure was to.
- To maintain pedestrians and bike riders’ safety
- To maintain Fire Department response times
- To accommodate the needs of the construction project
While the construction of a new fire house was completed earlier this year, auxiliary activities associated with the project, including the paving of a new parking lot, have continued. The Coalition has been in communication with City staff, and they have informed us that there is some additional work that still needs to be done that will require that the lane remain closed. City staff are in the process of finalizing the project schedule and have promised to provide the Roadway Committee with updates as to when the closed lane can be reopened. We will share this information with the Community as soon as it is provided.
