Topic 1: Craig Murray from the Coalition of North San Rafael Neighborhoods presented information on year round pool availability and suggested that San Rafael should look into having a community pool that is open year round. Debbie Younkin attended to present information about the use of the City’s pool.
Topic 2: Nader Mansourian and Kevin McGowan from the Public Works Department presented information on FEMA Flood Map updates.
The Ross Valley FEMA flood maps have been done and implemented. They include parts of Gerstle Park.
Currently the SF Bay Coastal Area maps are being worked on and will be finalized and become effective in January 2015. Properties that are not currently in the designated area that requires flood insurance if there is a federally backed mortgage on the property will be added to the flood area and some properties that are currently in the designated flood area may be removed from it. Letters will be sent out soon to affected homeowners. This part of the mapping includes areas along Pt. San Pedro Road. As soon as it is available a copy of this letter will be posted on the sprcoalition.org website.
More information on the maps can be found on the Public Works section of the City website and copies of the maps can be seen at the Public Works office. Appointments can be made to discuss the map with Kevin McGowan.
There will be public hearings on three consecutive days for this mapping. One of the meetings will be held on Wednesday June 18 in the San Rafael City Council Chamber. Meetings with the same content will be held in Novato on Tuesday June 17 and in Mill Valley on Thursday June 19th.
