Dear Neighbors,
Many of you have seen or heard about the recent pause placed on the new parking restrictions for bike lanes along Point San Pedro Road, as reported in the recent Marin Independent Journal article covering the issue. We want to share with you a few key takeaways and important neighborhood announcements:
- Inconsistent Implementation: Under the original plan, on-street parking was eliminated along major stretches to paint bike lanes, but preserved in front of certain homes while removing it from others—creating confusion and uneven impacts for residents along the corridor.
- Communication Breakdown: The Coalition advocated to the city and county for them to solicit more input before finalizing the plans. We also worked hard to get information out to the community via our email list, our website, Nextdoor, Facebook, and Instagram as we learned about their final plans and scheduling for slurry seal, restriping, and parking restrictions. We continue to update the status on our website here.
The City and County have acknowledged that they failed to directly notice all individual property owners whose parking was affected before moving forward with construction. - Flawed Baseline Data: The decision to eliminate roughly 285 parking spaces relied heavily on a weeklong study conducted in mid-December—a time when holiday travel may have skewed parking numbers — and failed to reflect everyday neighborhood needs as well as ripple effects on residents on side streets.
- Push for Solutions: Public Works officials are conducting a block-by-block engineering review to explore options for restoring parking while maintaining traffic safety.
We remain committed to working collaboratively with local officials, traffic and bicycle safety advocates, and all of you to push for a fair, comprehensive solution for our roadway. Please see below for other upcoming events.
Best regards,

Upcoming Events
1. Coastal Flood Advisory through Thu, Oct 29th
Please be aware that upcoming King Tides may cause localized roadway flooding along vulnerable low-lying stretches of Point San Pedro Road over the next couple of days. Exercise extra caution while driving, biking, or walking near the shoreline during high tide windows.
Check our Tides and Flooding page for links to tide forecasts and road sections vulnerable to flooding. View current flooding and road impacts at Emergency.MarinCounty.gov and signup for AlertMarin, if you haven’t already.
The County is planning to deploy temporary tidal flood barriers along Point San Pedro Road in the vicinity of 243 Point San Pedro Road. These barriers are intended to help reduce the impacts of tidal flooding during periods of extreme high tides and winter storm conditions.
2. Zoom Meeting: El Niño Flooding Prep — Sat, Nov 7th
With predictions of potential Very Strong El Niño weather patterns this season, we need to ensure our corridor is prepared for significant winter storms and localized flooding—especially given long-standing unaddressed drainage needs in our area. Join us for a crucial community presentation from the City of San Rafael on how we can prepare for the upcoming Very Strong El Niño.
3. SAVE THE DATE: Annual Community Meeting — Wed, Nov 18th
Mark your calendars! We will be hosting our Annual Community Meeting to discuss key neighborhood priorities, city/county updates, infrastructure, and next steps for our roadway safety and parking efforts.
