Update on Northbound Central San Rafael Exit Renovation Project

A City of San Rafael Department of Public Works Department Manager confirmed that CalTrans will be rebuilding the bridge on the northbound Central San Rafael freeway exit ramp and will be adding another traffic lane in the exit area. They plan to reverse the locations of the present pedestrian crosswalks located at Second and Irvin Streets. This will permit them to create two lanes in which drivers can make a right turn onto Second Street, where there is only one now.

The bridge construction will take place this summer. Because of the pile driving activities, the City elected to allow full closures for four weekends (late Friday till early Monday) instead of allowing night work for extended period of time. The times of the closures will be coordinated with all stakeholders to avoid major planned events.

Outside the full closures there will be stage construction disruptions throughout the project. The City will be coordinating closely with CalTrans to minimize the impact on the motoring public.

The events will be publicized through CalTrans Public Information Office.
