The Wetlands Committee Presentation on the Breeding Bird Atlas II Project is Available by Video

The Marin Country Breeding Bird Atlas II is undertaking a multi-year breeding bird survey to map the distribution of breeding birds in Marin.   We are excited to have had Liz Lewis, the Project Coordinator for our area, talk on February 27, 2024 about this impressive project and breeding birds observed in our neighborhoods. The video of this presentation is now available on our YouTube Channel. In addition, Liz’s slide deck is also available to be viewed separately.

This Program is part of our ongoing series of educational events about our precious local wetlands. Click here to view our previously recorded webinars about birdlife in our wetlands that are posted on the Coalition’s YouTube Channel.

LIZ LEWIS

Liz became a Project Coordinator for the Marin Breeding Bird Atlas II in January 2023. She has a background in wildlife ecology and has been an avid contributor to the Breeding Bird Atlas since 2021 serving as a survey leader for multiple Atlas blocks including those that cover Peacock Gap, China Camp and McNear’s Park. She has been appreciating the birds and wildlife of China Camp State Park, San Pedro Ridge and San Rafael Bay since 1995 when she moved here from Miami, FL.

The Marin County Breeding Bird Atlas II (MCBBA2) is a multi-year volunteer led project that is a follow-up to the first county Atlas whose field work was completed 40 years ago and was published 30 years ago (Shuford 1993). Field work on the second Atlas began in 2021, and last year, they completed their third year of data collection, thanks to a dedicated team of volunteer observers. The presentation will go over the birds observed in our San Rafael neighborhoods, as well as ways that our community can contribute to and support the Atlas project.

Donations to the Marin County Breeding Bird Atlas would be appreciated.
