Disaster Prep: Emergency Alert Systems

The City of San Rafael and County of Marin maintain a city-wide and county-wide emergency notification system.

NIXLE

Nixle keeps you up-to-date with relevant information from your local public safety departments & schools, such as the San Rafael Police and Fire Departments. Receive alerts for severe weather, criminal activities, severe traffic, missing persons and local events. On your smartphone or tablet, text your zip code to 888777 to opt-in. You can provide multiple zip codes if you have residences in multiple locations.

AlertMarin

The Marin County Sheriff’s Department has implemented an improved countywide emergency alert system called AlertMarin. If you live, work or go to school in Marin County and are 18 and over, you may now register your cell phone or VoIP (voice over internet protocol) phone to receive emergency alerts sent by call, text, email, or smartphone application from the County of Marin. Listed and unlisted/blocked Marin County landlinephone numbers are already included in this emergency notification system. You can use the QR code above, call the number indicated, or go to the AlertMarin website.

PG&E Outage Alerts

Stay informed with PG&E outage alerts delivered via text, email or phone. PG&E provides updates that include the cause of the outage as well as when you can expect power to be back on. PG&E offers two types of outage alerts:

  • Individual outage alerts can be set up by visiting our online outage map, where you can search for outages and sign up for alerts for any outage you find. No account on pge.com is required.
  • Future outage alerts for your home require you to sign into Your Account on pge.com where you can set your outage alert preferences. Once preferences have been set, you will receive outage alerts for any current outages, as well as all future outages.

ZoneHaven

ZoneHaven is a new online resource that includes evacuation information by zones/neighborhoods and provides real-time data on wildfires, emergencies, and fire risks. Community members can check their evacuation zone to be more informed on current conditions of active emergencies and monitor evacuation status. This new tool does not replace AlertMarin, the countywide emergency notification system used to alert residents of emergencies.  You can use the QR code above or go to the ZoneHaven website.

Marin County Public Emergency Portal

The Public Emergency Portal of Marin County website’s purpose is to connect our community with resources to plan for the emergency and know what to do in case of the emergency. The website provides location information about existing emergency incidents and evacuation notices.
