Lane Reduction

The Coalition presented a letter to the Marin County Department of Public Works regarding their proposed project to reduce the number of vehicle lanes from two to one on Pt. San Pedro Road between the signaled Loch Lomond Drive intersection and Riviera. That letter, reproduced below, documents the Coalition’s and community’s concerns regarding this project

The Point San Pedro Road Coalition has been working with City staff on short- and longer-term solutions to improve the Esplanade on Point San Pedro Road between Bayside Park and Riviera Drive. Short-term improvements include repairing the sidewalk area adjacent to the seawall. Longer term solutions include improvements to the seawall, expanding the pedestrian walkway

Below is an email the Coalition sent on Monday December 13 to our email list regarding the County’s proposal and their upcoming meeting. It provides background and the Coalition’s concerns regarding the options presented by the County. We urge the community to attend and express their thoughts and concerns.

Bayside Park will be open for use by 5pm on Friday, 9/17. All elements of the park are available for visitor use, including an ADA accessible parking space. Turf areas are currently covered with engineered bark until the drought ends. The timeline for turf installation is unknown;  it will be installed once Marin County Parks

Marin County is proposing to re-stripe Pt. San Pedro Road eastbound from Loch Lomond Drive/Lochinvar to Main Drive. This re-striping would reduce the number of lanes in this section from two to one. The recovered eastbound lane would be used to provide curb-side parking and a dedicated bike lane with a buffer between that lane

Coalition leaders and a neighbor concerned about the plans for the Bayside Park renovation met at the park with the renovation Project Manager Erin Riley, Landscape Architect Tara McIntire, and Ari Golan from the Marin County Parks Department.  Following that meeting, on September 15, 2020, the landscape architect wrote: Thank you for taking the time
